Reine Hafley Shelton

Reine made her vaudeville debut at three as part of her mother’s sharpshooting act. She broke new ground for women, successfully competing in relay races, trick and bronc riding and roping events, usually beating the men. Reine taught Tad Lucas trick riding when they both toured with Wild West shows. She rode in the first Madison Square Garden Rodeo. Her trademark stunt was appearing to fall from her horse’s hips, then straightening to a tail stand.
