The Cowgirl Celebrates Topping Off for Expansion

The National Cowgirl Museum & Hall of Fame reached a major milestone in its ongoing expansion on Monday, September 22, with a traditional “topping off” ceremony. Leaders, supporters, and community members gathered to celebrate the placement of the final beam, marking a symbolic step forward in the Museum’s growth and its mission to honor and share the stories of trailblazing women of the West.

The expansion will provide new gallery space, upgraded interactive exhibits, and enhanced community programming, ensuring that the stories of pioneering cowgirls—past, present, and future—continue to inspire generations to come.

“This topping off is not just about adding steel and concrete,” said Kit Moncrief, President of the Board. “It’s about building a stronger future for the Museum, Fort Worth, and the western way of life. We’re creating a space that reflects the bold, resilient women we honor here every day. We are incredibly grateful to the City of Fort Worth for their strong support and belief in our mission.”

The ceremony included the signing of the final beam by museum staff, donors, and community partners before it was lifted into place. Attendees then joined for a reception inside the Museum to celebrate this significant step toward completion.

The National Cowgirl Museum & Hall of Fame is the only museum in the world dedicated to honoring women of the West who have displayed extraordinary courage, resilience, and independence. The expansion is made possible through the generosity of donors and community partners who share in the vision of preserving and promoting this unique history.

The project is slated for completion in 2026. Click here for more about the expansion.
