Sallie endured the hardships of pioneer life, living in the isolation of cattle ranches. Though her formal education was limited to the sporadic presence of country schoolteachers, Sallie wrote Interwoven: A Pioneer Chronicle, a clan story of the experiences and complex relationships that developed between two families as they built a new community in the West. Intended as a family history for the children, it has become an important source of information on the history of the Texas frontier.
