Elenor (Sissy) Thurman

Sissy began riding horses at five years old and competed in her first barrel race event at eleven. Born in Galveston, she served as rodeo queen for local rodeo and stock shows and was a tap dancer and teacher before she began to rodeo professionally. Sissy went on to become one of the country’s top barrel racers, at one point setting the fastest time in NFR barrel racing to that date. She also held barrel racing clinics and served as barrel racing director for the GRA.
