In 2014, Amy Bell of Weatherford, Texas—beloved daughter of Ellen and Larry Bell of Midland—passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from a pulmonary embolism at the age of 33. Though her years were far too short, Amy lived them fully and fearlessly. She was known as a tenacious horsewoman, a seasoned traveler, an accomplished hunter, a devoted philanthropist, and above all, a loyal and loving friend. She touched lives across the world with her compassion, spirit, and generosity.

Amy’s deep love for horses, her many pets, her family, her friends, and her faith defined her days. She lived life “with no handlebars,” embracing adventure, joy, and challenge with unshakable courage. Children, in particular, held a special place in her heart. Whether across Texas or in faraway places she visited, Amy’s compassion for children knew no boundaries.

Throughout her life, Amy engaged in numerous charitable and humanitarian efforts—often privately, without fanfare—focusing on improving the lives of those less fortunate. Her travels across the globe inspired projects that extended her love and support to children worldwide. Her desire was clear: that her legacy of generosity would continue, especially for the youngest and most vulnerable. Before her passing, Amy left thoughtful instructions on how her family and friends could continue her mission of “Pay It Forward.”

In recognition of her passion, achievements, and spirit, Amy was posthumously honored with the 2016 Mitzi Lucas Riley Award from the National Cowgirl Museum & Hall of Fame. This award celebrates women whose courage, independence, and resilience embody the cowgirl spirit—a fitting tribute to Amy’s life and character.

To carry forward her vision, Amy Bell Charities was established. This foundation continues the work Amy began by supporting children’s causes, humanitarian projects, and community initiatives both locally and globally. Guided by her example of quiet generosity, Amy Bell Charities ensures that her light and compassion live on—offering hope, opportunity, and love to countless children and families around the world.

Amy Bell’s story is one of adventure, courage, and heart. Though her time on earth was brief, her legacy endures through the lives she touched, the causes she championed, and the enduring impact of her charitable work.
