Event Details

The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame – the only museum in the world dedicated to honoring women of the American West who have displayed extraordinary courage in their trailblazing efforts – is pleased to welcome to the Anne W. Marion Gallery “RODEO: Photographs by Rima Canaan Lee.” The exhibition of photographs by Fort Worth-based photographer will be available for public viewing November 20, 2015 through February 7, 2016.

Lee, who was born in Beirut, Lebanon and raised in Hamburg, Germany, was unfamiliar with rodeo culture when she arrived in Texas. She attended the 2013 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo almost daily during its three-week run, photographing whatever caught her eye. The results are two distinct sets of photographs: one of the rodeos, and another of the stock show.

The rodeo photographs are studies of motion, capturing in a single image the essence of speed and energy. Young students with their stock are photographed as we often see them, on their cell phones, but within a time and tradition-honored environment of the stock show. Both sets of photographs highlight an event that still carries promise of the American West.
