Willa Cather

(1873-1947)

Year Inducted: 1986

Home State: NE

Willa's sensitivity to her surroundings appeared repeatedly in her stories and books. Raised on the edge of the western frontier, she wrote with a passion and clarity based in her own knowledge of the stories of early Nebraska settlers. Willa was editor of a national magazine, author of best-selling novels and winner of the Pulitzer Prize and several honorary degrees. Her writings were the first to mark America's "Coming of Age' in literature.
