Mary Ann (Molly) Goodnight

(1839-1926)

Year Inducted: 1991

Home State: TX

Wife of cattleman Charles Goodnight, Molly drove supply wagons and took charge of ranch operations when her husband was absent. Affectionately called "the little mother of the plains," she cared for the cowhands and Indians who came to the ranch as a way to combat the loneliness of being the only woman in the area. Molly and her husband built Goodnight College, helped build a community church and were responsible for the preservation of Texas buffalo.
