General Information
Volunteer Opportunities
Administrative Volunteers
- Volunteers who are interested in filing and data entry, as well as folding, stuffing, and mailing flyers are needed in the marketing, membership and finance departments.
- Special-event volunteers for activities with children are needed in the Education Department and an office assistant is needed to help with printing, collating and data entry.
- Volunteers are trained on an individual basis, depending upon the type of service they will provide. Volunteers may have a set schedule or work on a project basis.
Special Event Volunteers
- Volunteers who wish to help with special events will usually arrive 30 minutes before an event begins and will monitor different stations (such as the interactive exhibits) depending on the type of event. This is a great area for those interested in volunteering on a project-by-project basis.
Cowgirl Shop
- Volunteers with retail experience may be interested in working in the Cowgirl Shop.
We need help with inventory, computer entry, ticket sales and gift shop sales in our beautiful 2000 square foot store. Training will be provided.
Gallery Attendants
For special events inside the museum, we need people to simply watch over the exhibits and answer any questions the public may have. Training will be provided for this position upon arrival.
Hall of Fame Archive Crew
- Volunteers who choose to work for the Hall of Fame Archive Crew should be able to pay attention to details and have good organizational skills and experience with basic office machines.
These volunteers will help keep the Hall of Fame process running smoothly and efficiently, ensuring the best access to information by researchers and the most updated and fairest selection process. The Hall of Fame process includes sending nomination forms to those who request them, sending letters acknowledging completed nomination forms that have been received, filing and updating existing nomination files, updating the nomination card files, double checking facts presented in nomination forms and entering records in the database. These time-consuming tasks require patience but are very important because they have built up what is now the library and archives and continue to be its core.
Library
- The National Cowgirl Museum Library and Archives is interested in recruiting volunteers who are interested in examining trade publications and newspaper articles to identify the subject of the article (generally, an inductee into the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame.) Articles will then be labeled and filed in the appropriate archive files. Articles may include subject matter of interest to the library and archives. In this case, copies of articles will be made and filed in the appropriate archive files.
- In addition, volunteer tasks will include filing current trade publications and newspaper articles in the library and archives news files and copying articles, when appropriate, to be filed in inductee archives and subject files.
