The National Cowgirl Musuem and Hall of Fame welcomes volunteers in a number of different departments. We invite you to apply by calling 817-509-8975 and downloading our volunteer form. Volunteers will be trained on an individual basis depending on services provided, and may be asked to work a set schedule or on a project basis.
The Museum occasionally needs volunteers for children’s activities, our Heart of the West Art Show, Induction Luncheon, Educator Evening and other project-based special events. For some events, we need gallery attendants to simply watch over the exhibits and answer any questions the public may have.
Do you have retail experience? Our 2,000-square-foot Cowgirl Shop is always looking for help with inventory, computer entry, ticket sales and gift sales. Training is provided.
Volunteers are needed to keep Hall of Fame procedures running smoothly and effliciently. All responsibilities include a critical eye for detail and knowledge of basic office machines. Duties include:
The National Cowgirl Museum Library and Archives needs volunteers to examine publications and articles to identify featured individuals (generally, our inductees) and other subjects of interest. Tasks also include labeling, filing and copying articles as needed.
Bound together by their interest in American West and cowgirl history, our core group of 25 docents educates visitors through a unique set of skills and backgrounds.
The Cowgirl’s docent program is designed to educate, stimulate and give motivated learners greater skills in teaching and storytelling. Each docent trains at the Museum and independently to learn about Hall of Fame Honorees and the history of the American West. Quarterly training sessions are held for six consecutive weeks. Call us for more information or email us at chris@cowgirl.net
Additionally, docents share these characteristics:
Flexibility in working with tour materials, other docents, staff and Museum visitors.
Being interested in what you’re discussing in order to truly engage Museum visitors.
Combining knowledge of the “Cowgirl” with a deep appreciation of the American West.
Expressing ideas logically, audibly and with enthusiasm.
Establishing a common bond with your group at the beginning of each and every visit.
Familiarizing yourself with the learning skills of both children and adults
Seeing Museum exhibitions with fresh eyes every once in a while.
Showing continual openness to new ideas and information.
Being a warm and friendly Museum ambassador inspires visitors to return
