Cynthia Ann Parker
1998 Cowgirl Honoree – Texas
Cynthia was captured when she was nine years old during a Comanche raid on Fort Parker in 1836, and grew up as an adopted Comanche, eventually marrying a war leader. Twenty four years later, she was “rescued,” but could not readjust to life within white culture. While with the Comanche, Cynthia had three children, one of whom was the great Comanche chief Quanah Parker. Though she never acclimatized to the white world, Cynthia remains an inspiration because of the enormous challenges she faced.
